Potassium is also a macro-mineral required by the human body for the activity of brain and nerves. It helps in maintaining the osmotic balance between the cells within the body. Bananas, potatoes, tomatoes, soybeans, orange juice, apricots are the major sources of potassium. It is a macro-mineral. Also it is found in meat products and vegetables. Deficiency of potassium in our diet can result in hypertension. Sodium free baking powder and sodium free salt are two potassium supplements. But the frequent use of these supplements can result in beriberi due to the lack of thymine intake. Also large intake of potassium will result in adverse effects.
